This morning I went to water the garden and as I was looking at the squash I noticed a lot of damage "overnight". Many of the leaves and stems were wilted. When I touched one of the stems it oozed gooey, clear stuff. I don't know if I have a borer or a fungus? I pulled the affected plants and hope it doesn't spread to the others. The box that they are in isn't doing great. The squash has been blooming beautiful. I read that it may help if I wrap the stems in foil. I may try that or I risk losing the other plants.
It's amazing to watch how much the garden grows every day. Neighbors that I have never met have come over and introduced themselves for the first time in 2 years. My Garden has become a place to visit with passers by taking their evening walks and even kids ask what I'm growing. My older neighbors average 70+ years old. They share their stories of the gardens they had when they were younger and how gardens were a staple in their childhoods. It seems a time gone by may have another go around and I am so happy I put my garden in the front. My husband is sometimes more excited than I am and we are talking about expanding it. My next project is a chicken coop. My back yard has plenty of room and I look forward to adding to the homestead.
Here are a couple pictures. Sage advice is always welcome!
Peace to All!!!
